But the Senate? The Senate is where good legislation goes to die.
The SAVE America Act has stalled in the Senate. Senate Majority Leader John Thune has repeatedly said the bill does not have the votes to clear the 60-vote filibuster threshold. Republicans only hold 53 seats. Democrats are blocking it. And Thune refuses to eliminate the filibuster to get it done.
Let me be clear: John Thune is a traitor.
I will say it boldly and without apology. John Thune has betrayed the Republican Party, betrayed the American people, and betrayed the cause of election integrity. He is the key roadblock to the SAVE America Act. He has the power to change Senate rules. He refuses.
And here’s what I’m promising you:
When I am president, I will launch a full investigation into whether John Thune or any other senator was bribed—financially or otherwise—to block the American Patriot Voting Act with Free Voter ID for Every Citizen. The American people deserve to know who is selling out our elections. If there is corruption behind this betrayal, I will find it, and I will prosecute it to the fullest extent of the law.

There’s already a mechanism to help states implement voter ID. The SAVE America Through REAL ID Act, introduced by Rep. Julie Fedorchak and Rep. Laurel Lee, would establish a $50 million federal grant program to help states issue REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses and identification cards free of charge to eligible Americans.
This is a good start. But I’m going further:
My plan makes the ID free for everyone—not just low-income Americans. No means testing. No bureaucracy. No stigma.
The Fedorchak-Lee bill also includes provisions for:

· Covering administrative costs for processing REAL ID applications

President Trump has repeatedly called on Senate Republicans to pass the SAVE America Act. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump’s “patience is running out” with Thune over the Senate’s failure to pass the bill.
At a rally in Georgia, Trump told the crowd:
“Everybody call John Thune. He’s the leader of the Republican Party, and tell him to get this stuff approved.”
Trump has also called on Senate Republicans to eliminate the filibuster to allow the bill to pass by a simple majority.
But Thune and Republican leadership are not in favor of scrapping the filibuster. They’re making excuses. They’re protecting the swamp. They’re blocking election integrity.

Here’s the truth about John Fetterman’s position:
Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) has claimed he would support a “clean” voter ID bill. He says he won’t support the SAVE America Act “in its current form” because he claims Republicans “turned it into a Christmas list” and are “attacking vote-by-mail” .
But here’s my response:
Fetterman is wrong. The SAVE America Act is not a “Christmas list.” It’s common sense election integrity. And yes, we ARE attacking vote-by-mail—because mail-in voting is a fraud-ridden system that undermines the integrity of our elections.

Everyone else? You need to show up and vote in person. That’s how we secure our elections.
The SAVE America Act already includes provisions to end universal mail-in voting with limited exceptions . That’s the RIGHT approach. We should not back down from this.

📅 My Voting System Proposal: 7 Days, Midnight Cutoff
Here’s what I propose for our voting system:
🇺🇸 Seven Days of Voting
Polls should be open for exactly 7 days—no more, no less.
⏰ Midnight Cutoff
Voting ends at 12:00 midnight on Election Day.
No one votes after midnight. No exceptions.
If the polls close at midnight, they close at midnight. No “oh, we need to keep them open longer” excuses. No “the machines broke” excuses. No “we need to count ballots for days” excuses.
What this means:
· Voters in line at 11:59 PM? They vote.
· Voters who show up at 12:01 AM? Too late. You had 7 days.

🗣️ What is a Filibuster?
A filibuster is when a senator talks forever to stop a vote.
Imagine you’re in a classroom. The teacher says, “We’re going to vote on whether to have pizza for lunch.” But one kid stands up and says, “I’m going to talk about the history of pizza for the next 8 hours so we can’t vote today.” They keep talking until everyone gives up.
That’s a filibuster.
In the Senate, a senator can talk for hours—sometimes 24 hours—to delay or block a vote. As long as they keep talking, the vote can’t happen.
⏹️ What is Cloture?
Cloture is how you shut up the filibusterer.
If a senator is filibustering, you need 60 senators to agree to stop the talking. That’s called “invoking cloture.”
🤔 Why 60 Votes Instead of 51?
The Constitution says a simple majority (51 votes) can pass most bills. The filibuster rule was created by the Senate itself—it’s not in the Constitution.
Senator Mike Lee put it this way: “That means that but for the Zombie Filibuster, the House-passed SAVE America Act would now be on its way to the White House for President Trump’s signature.”
💣 What is the “Nuclear Option”?
The nuclear option is how the Senate blows up the 60-vote rule.
If a majority of senators (51) want to eliminate the 60-vote requirement, they can. Both parties have done it before:
· 2013: Democrats (Harry Reid) nuked the filibuster for presidential appointments
· 2017: Republicans (Mitch McConnell) nuked the filibuster for Supreme Court nominees
John Thune has the power to do this. He refuses.
🦥 The “Talking Filibuster”
The original filibuster required senators to actually stand and talk.
Today’s filibuster is a “lazy filibuster.” A senator doesn’t have to talk. They just threaten to, and the bill is dead unless it has 60 votes.
The talking filibuster is still allowed. If Thune wanted to, he could make Democrats stand on the Senate floor and talk until they ran out of gas. When they finally stop, you hold the vote. Simple.
But Thune won’t do it.
