📜 THE PROBLEM: THE GREAT LAKES ARE A SMUGGLER’S HIGHWAY
The Great Lakes and other waterways (like the St. Lawrence Seaway) are unique. They aren’t “open land” you can patrol with a truck. The threat isn’t someone wading across.
It’s small boats. Fishing vessels. Even swimmers.
The international boundary is a line on the water. Without a comprehensive approach, we are blind.

🛰️ THE SOLUTION: A “VIRTUAL WALL” OF TECHNOLOGY
A comprehensive approach is needed:
Radar and Sensor Networks
You would deploy a network of coastal radar sites and sensors along the U.S. shoreline. These can detect and track small vessels far out on the water—something a standard camera cannot do. This gives you early warning of a potential threat.
Marine Cameras
High-powered, long-range thermal cameras would be placed at strategic choke points—around major ports, locks, and narrow river passages—to visually identify and track vessels flagged by radar.
Increased Marine Patrols
You can’t put wire on water. The only way to interdict a threat is with a boat. This would involve significantly expanding the U.S. Border Patrol and U.S. Coast Guard presence on the Great Lakes with rapid-response vessels.

⚠️ The Operational Gap: Detection Is Not Interdiction
Here is the honest truth:
Technology can see the threat. It cannot stop the threat.
When a radar detects a small boat crossing from Canadian waters into U.S. waters near Detroit, someone must intercept that boat before it reaches shore and its occupants disappear into the interior.
If you eliminate or drastically reduce marine patrols, you are left with three options for interdiction:
Option Feasibility Drawbacks
Rely on Local Law Enforcement Low to Moderate Local sheriff’s departments are not equipped, trained, or legally mandated to perform federal interdiction on open water. Response times would be slow and inconsistent.
Deploy Drones for Interdiction Technically Possible, Legally Complex Armed drones over U.S. waterways raise serious legal and public perception issues. Non-lethal options (nets, dazzlers) exist but are experimental.
Rapid-Response Teams on Shore Moderate This is the most viable alternative. Instead of patrolling the water, you station small, fast-response teams at strategic points along the shoreline. When the radar detects a threat, you dispatch a team to intercept the vessel as it lands. This reduces the need for constant boat patrols but does not eliminate the need for personnel and boats entirely.

💎 MY HONEST ANALYSIS AND RECOMMENDATION
The instinct to rely on technology is correct for detection and situational awareness. The Great Lakes and waterways are too vast for effective patrolling anyway.
The smartest, most cost-effective approach is exactly what you propose: a dense network of sensors and cameras providing a complete picture.
However, for interdiction, you must have a plan to respond when the alarm sounds. A “Technology-First, Minimal Response” model is the most effective approach:
Step 1: Deploy the Full Sensor Suite
Radar, thermal cameras, AI analytics. Cover the Great Lakes with a virtual dome of surveillance.
Step 2: Eliminate Routine Patrols
Do not waste money on boats driving in circles hoping to spot something.
Step 3: Maintain a Small, Strategic Interdiction Force
Instead of a large Coast Guard fleet, maintain a lean force of 10-12 rapid-response vessels stationed at key chokepoints:

· St. Clair River
· Niagara River
· St. Lawrence Seaway
These boats only launch when the sensor network detects a confirmed threat. This minimizes operational costs while preserving the ability to actually stop an incursion.

I am running as a Republican, but as a Republican, I still need to gather thousands of signatures from registered voters in every state just to qualify for the primary ballot. I will be running against other Republican leaders such as JD Vance and Marco Rubio — but I cannot even face them at the ballot box unless I first get on the ballot.
